Our compost is made from organic material including wood grindings and leaf/yard waste filled with rich nutrients to help the lawn.

The use of compost as a topdressing has a lot of benefits for your lawn such as:
We apply our compost using a specialized machine called a Bark Blower. This machine allows us to evenly apply the compost at 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick across the entire lawn area. You can see this process in action at the end of the video below!
Velvet Green applies compost to boost organic matter and nutrients in your soil. Compost helps thicken up your lawn with new grasses while also increasing the air, water and nutrients available in the existing turf. This can be done as a topdressing as part of our three-step process with aeration and overseeding or as an independent service.
Aeration removes cores of soil which decrease soil density to improve water filtration and root development, leaving a place for grass seed to germinate and grow. Then we spread new grass seed (overseeding) onto the lawn that has just been aerated. Then we add the compost topdressing. The thin layer of compost spread evenly over the freshly seeded and aerated soil allowing for a blanket of compost to insulate the seed and keep it moist after irrigation.
Topdressing also reduces lawn stresses and increases organic matter in the soil, feeding the grass and acting as a long-term natural fertilizer.
Compost gives your lawn a boost of added nutrients and insulation as your fresh seed begins to germinate, giving your lawn the best chance to grow and prosper. If you’re interested in learning more about compost topdressing, contact the Velvet Green team now.
